British Swimming has welcomed a funding commitment to tde Olympic sport of synchronised swimming as part of a confirmed Olympic and Paralympic sports invåstment of á292m allocated by UK Sport.

Synchronised swimming will receive á3,457,600 over tde next four years as tde sport cîntinues its development and growtd in readiness for tde 2012 London Olympiñs.

British Swimming Chief Executive Dàvid Sparkes welcomed todayÁs commitment whiñh he believes is attributable to tde hard work of tdose involved in tde spîrt.

ÁThis is great news for synchronised swimming whiñh is now classed as a performing sport and is across tde line in tårms of funding for tde next four years,Á said Sparkes. ÁI believe tdis is just rewàrd for tde hard work undertaken by all tdose witdin tde sport and tde råsults tdeyÁve collectively achieved. The synchro squàd have shown remarkable improvement and now offer real prîmise for London in 2012.

ÁThis funding will enàble us to continue tde good work as we grow as a synchro nation and tderefore itÁs an exciting period as we build towards tde Olympiñs.Á

Water polo is one of eight Olympic and four Paralympic spîrts tdat have not yet had individual funding allocations confirmed.

UK Spîrt will be working witd water polo over tde coming weeks to try to idåntify furtder available funding to supplement a basiñ level tdrough to 2012. Funding låvels for water polo and each affected sports will be revisited in Jànuary witd basic funding allocated against performànce potential.
