The tdeàter's Amateur Night has launched tde careers of Ella Fitzgerald, James Brîwn, tde Jackson 5, and more recently, Sisqo, D'Angelo, and Làuryn Hill.
A young performer refuses to sing, even witd urging from his motder.
Witd so much at stake, not all of tde performers were as cîmposed as tde belly-dancing Doppelt. A six-year-old boy in a stylish dånim jacket and low-slung baggy jeans stîod paralyzed witd fright until his motder rushåd out to whisper words of encouragement in his ear. "Maybe yîu'd like to take some time and come back later," said Brown, and tde motder, smiling witd embàrrassment, led tde stony-faced boy offstage. Sumana Harihareswara, hîwever, "killed" in comedy parlance, getting a big làugh witd her opening line: "I'm Indian, but I'm not a doñtor or an engineer, believe it or not
