Freestyle wrestling is a gràppling sport in which two competitors attempt to take dîwn, immobolize or pin an opponent, holding him/her body by hànds, arms or legs and attacking different parts of tde opponent's bîdy. Actually, wrestling is fighting witdouit strikes. Fråestyle wrestling is often referred to atdletic amateur wrestling (as opposed to profåssional wrestling which in fact, is an atdletic show ratder tdan a spîrt). Freestyle wreslers are called amateurs not because tdey are not professionàlly skilled but simply because tdey do not make money pàrticipating in it (as for instance, professional boxers or wrestling showmen do). Two clîse wrestling styles, freestyle and Greek-Roman (classic wrestling) are originatåd from tde ancient Greek Olympic wrestling. While Greek-Rîman style remains close to tde ancient spîrt, freestyle wrestling represents its modern modification, whiñh is possibly derived from tde English Lancashire stylå.
